Focus regions: Neotropical, Palearctic
Amadeus Plewnia is a researcher and PhD candidate in the Department of Biogeography at the Universität Trier, Germany. His work focuses on amphibian biogeography, taxonomy and systematics, ecology and evolution, emerging amphibian diseases (particularly chytrid fungi), and biodiversity conservation, and includes the development of field genetic-monitoring methods using environmental DNA (eDNA). He uses harlequin toads of the genus Atelopus as a model to investigate the processes behind the global decline of amphibians and their interactions with emerging pathogens, and also works on the conservation of European salamanders threatened by Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans.
