Postdoctoral Researcher, University of L'Aquila; co-Director, Amphibian Genomics Consortium
Focus regions: Palearctic
Dr María Torres-Sánchez is co-Director of the Amphibian Genomics Consortium (AGC) and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of L'Aquila, Italy. Her research focuses on understanding how biodiversity is generated and maintained, with a particular emphasis on amphibian ecology, evolution, and conservation. Using approaches from evolutionary ecology and genomics, she investigates how species adapt to environmental challenges such as fossorial/cavernicolous lifestyles and emerging infectious diseases. Her work aims to uncover molecular and ecological mechanisms that shape species resilience in rapidly changing environments and to support the development of evolutionary rescue strategies for amphibian conservation.
